DRAWN OF THE DEAD
Held at The Greystones pub in Sheffield, Dr. Sketchy nights are put on every few months where a growing group of artists, students and local punters are coming along to try their hand at alternative life drawing.
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art school was actually found in 2005 in a dive bar in Brooklyn, and it has now spread to over 100 cities around the world. It has now established itself as the world’s premier alternative drawing movement, where artists can draw ‘glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality’. World famous artists such as Ron English, Alasdair Gray and (one of my favourites) Audrey Kawasaki are known to go to Dr. Sketchy’s, so for serious artists out there this is definitely a place to get some professional drawing practice in.
Last night was the most recent event put on in Sheffield, the night consisted of drawing, drinking, competitions, prizes and lots of zombie related fun. Models were dressed as the walking dead with a brilliant ghoulish themed soundtrack. Here are some of my drawings from the night. May I take this opportunity to explain that having brought only black pens I got slightly jealous of everyone else’s use of colour and resorted to lipgloss.
