Exploring the meaning of ILLUSTRATION.
We started by painting birds using inks and long sticks. The marks I could make were fairly gestural, the lack of control created a very loose image. After producing a few illustrations, we ripped up a couple to make a '3D drawing of our bird' trying to mimic the shape and textures. Once we had recreated the bird we then drew it again. Here is some of my work from this section:
DAVID DOWNTON from Kent, is principally a fashion illustrator, who has been commissioned by the likes of Tiffany & co, Chanel, Dior, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and the V&A museum. He is also a visiting professor at London College of Fashion.
My favourite element of his work is the effectiveness of his use of line. The style is loose and minimal, yet he successfully conveys detail, shade, proportion and shape.
